3 Places to Visit in Peebles
Last updated: 15 October 2021
Peebles is a lovely, very wee town in the Scottish Borders. We recently decided to visit for our wedding anniversary and while it is small, there is a bit to see!
1. Peebles High Street
Peebles High Street is very small for a High Street, but it is definitely fitting for a small town. If you’re interested, you can check out the Tweeddale Museum and Gallery and/or John Buchan Story Museum. Tweeddale Museum and Gallery showcases the best of the Scottish Borders and beyond in the form of visual arts, historical artefacts, and more. John Buchan was an author, historian, and politician, with his final role being the Governor General of Canada. The John Buchan Story Museum lets you explore his life in a museum setting.
Just off the High Street, you can check out Cocoa Black Chocolate Boutique, which is an award-winning chocolatier by Ruth Hinks. You can stop by for a coffee and cake as well as go to chocolate school!
Address: High Street, Peebles EH45 8AG
2. Walk Along the River Tweed
Peebles is situated along the River Tweed, and it is a nice, peaceful walk along the river. You can also take in the view from Tweed Bridge. While on the bridge, be sure to turn around and get a snapshot of Peebles Old Parish Church, which seems to resemble Edinburgh’s St Giles’ Cathedral.
Address: B7062, Peebles EH45 8AW
3. Great Polish Map of Scotland
The Great Polish Map of Scotland is technically in Eddleston, which is a bit north of Peebles, but is quite interesting. Jan Tomasik, a Polish war veteran, decided he wanted to create a 1:10,000 scale of the map of Scotland as a way to thank the Scottish people for their hospitality during World War II. It took six summers to make the detailed map out of concrete, and it can be found on the grounds of Barony Castle Hotel.
With the help of our new drone, we were able to capture a more spectacular view of the map!
Address: Old Manse Road, Peebles EH45 8QW
