One Journey Away is your guide to exploring Edinburgh and beyond. We share practical, honest tips for travellers who want to experience the city in a thoughtful and relaxed way — whether you’re here for a weekend break, visiting with young children, or travelling with friends.
We’re Ashley and Arek, a British family based in Edinburgh — originally from Canada and Poland respectively — and we’ve called Scotland home for over a decade (10 years for Ashley, 15+ years for Arek). Now raising our wee boy here, we see the city through a unique lens: part local, part explorer. That mix helps us create content that’s genuinely useful for a wide range of travellers — from solo visitors to families.
Our blog and YouTube channel focus mainly on Edinburgh, with a mix of helpful tips, scenic walks, and lesser-known spots — plus occasional content from across Scotland. Some posts are family-focused, others aren’t — but all are designed to help you get the most out of your time here without the overwhelm.
