5 Places to Visit in Corfu, Greece

Corfu is a beautiful and lush island on Greece’s northwest coast, situated next to Albania, and we spent a week there in September basking in the sunshine! In this blog post, we’ll share five places that we visited that we would like to pass along, and be sure to stay until the end because there’s a bonus!
Do note that all of the places we’ll be listing are clustered around the west and north sides of the island because those areas were closer to where we stayed, but they are great, scenic places to visit and all free! Also, as the places we list do not have any real or proper addresses, we’ve created a Google map of the locations, which you’ll find at the bottom of the post.
1. Angelo Castro Viewpoint
This is a viewpoint with a view to Angelokastro, a Byzantine castle on the highest peak of Corfu’s shoreline near Paleokastritsa and stands 305 metres (1,000 feet) high. You can take in the view from afar or take the trek to see the castle up close and personal.

2. Helidoni Viewpoint
This viewpoint is a bit random as there are no signs on the road telling you about it, but it is definitely worth stopping on the side of the road for! The view looks out to Agios Georgios Bay and it is just spectacular.
3. Porto Timoni and Limni Beaches
This is a beautiful double bay with two beaches: the big one is called Porto Timoni and the small one is called Limni. Getting to the beaches though, requires quite a hike. If you will be hiking down, you can park in the village of Afionas and follow the trail. Keep in mind that you will need proper shoes and, of course, bring some water and snacks with you. The hike each way should take approximately 20-30 minutes and halfway down, there is a beautiful aerial view of the double bay.
There are also many boat companies that can do transfers to and from the beaches if you’d prefer not to or cannot hike.
4. Cape Drastis Scenic View
On the northwest side of Corfu is Cape Drastis Scenic View, which looks over beautiful white/grey cliffs and clear blue water. From the car park to the viewpoint is about a 10-minute walk.
5. Kanali tou Erota
In Sidari, a community in the north of Corfu, lies Kanali tou Erota (Love Channel), which is an opening in the rock in the sea. There is apparently a legend that says that if you can swim from one side to the other, you will meet the love of your life on the other side. The beach in between the cliffs is called Canal d’Amour.
BONUS: Corfu Donkey Rescue
In the area of Paleokastritsa where we stayed in Corfu, we stumbled upon Corfu Donkey Rescue, a shelter for Corfu’s abandoned and abused donkeys. The shelter was started by Judy Quinn in 2004, who moved from the UK to Corfu.
It is free to visit but of course donations are encouraged, and there is a box when you exit to put in any money you’d like to donate. There are brushes available for you to pet the donkeys and there are a number of cats and dogs that live at the shelter as well.
Do beware that the road leading to the shelter is not the smoothest! And this is definitely a place where you need a car to get to.
